Dine on melons. Beautiful summer skin comes from within. Eat a lot of cantaloupe and watermelon. These fruits are filled with antioxidants and will help hydrate the skin. Enjoy radiant summer skin by eating a healthy diet.

Stock up on strawberries. Use fresh strawberries to freshen up your complexion. Simply cut large strawberries in half, squeeze them to release the juices and rub them in circular motions over your face. Leave the juices on your face for 2-3 minutes and then rinse. This will brighten sun and age spots to even your skin tone.

Protect your hair before swimming. Wet hair will absorb fewer chemicals like chlorine than dry hair. Be sure to keep hair braided or pinned up to prevent unruly tangles. And avoid a tight bun, as wet hair is susceptible to breakage when it is pulled.

Despite many medical advancements, women are still receiving faulty breast implants. Say it ain’t so!

More than 300,000 women received industrial-grade silicone in their implants from French implant manufacturer, Poly Implant Prosthesis. These implants were not used in the U.S., but thousands of American women traveled abroad for implants and could be affected.

With the practice of ‘plastic surgery tourism’ sending many overseas for the same cosmetic procedures but at cheaper prices, many women affected are from the U.S. with a South American or European connection.

Internationally trained plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Hartog, is spreading the word to women who might have been patients. So exactly what happened?

French implant manufacturer Poly Implant Prosthesis,’ founder Jean-Claude Mas is in jail as the company circulated these potentially harmful implants. Experts strongly recommend that these implants be removed or exchanged. And Dr. Hartog, agrees.

“This is an unfortunate incident that women need to be aware of,” said the expert who is also director of The Bougainvillea Clinique.

“Women who received these implants should seek management for implant problems with capsular contracture or consider removing the implants and use a fat transfer as a replacement. Using their own fat for enhancement eliminates the fear of incorrect silicon use.”

Internationally trained, Dr. Hartog specializes in breast reconstruction and enhancement but uses the virtually scarless, fat transfer procedure.

“With AFT, fat is removed from the thighs or abdomen using gentle liposuction and inserted in small droplets into the breast,” he explained.

A opposed to the potentially dangerous industrial-grade silicone implants, there is little risk of rejection when using AFT because it is a natural procedure, with the fat coming directly from the patient.”

While no implants from PIP were used in the U.S., experts estimate that thousands of American women traveled abroad for these implants, causing the need to spread the word to women nationwide who might have these implants as a result of a procedure overseas.

Dr. Mirwat Sami, Houston board-certified ophthalmologist of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery agrees. “It is the skin’s elasticity which prevents unwanted lines and furrows from forming, and keeps skin from sagging,” Sami explained.

Although wrinkles naturally develop with age, there are bad habits you can break to stop sabatoging skin. Here are Dr. Sami’s tips:

Don’t Sleep on Your Side or Stomach. “You might get a good night’s sleep on your sides and tummy, but you’re unnecessarily stressing your skin. Fetal and tummy positions when sleeping cause uneven blood circulation which locks up nourishment, blood, and oxygen on some parts of your body while depriving other body parts, including skin and cause it to become wrinkled,” Sami explained.

“Not only do these sleeping positions cause wrinkles, poor blood circulation causes fluids to be stuck around your eyes. This contributes to the formation of eye bags and dark under eye circles that make you look tired and older,” the expert highlighted.

Always Remove Makeup At Night. “When you sleep in your makeup, you’re basically asking for wrinkles,” Dr. Sami said. “The makeup and environmental pollutants you accumulate during the day seep into your pores, breaking down collagen and elastin.

This can speed up the aging process and leave you with fine lines and wrinkles,” Dr. Sami said.

Try To Limit Central Heating. “The central heating and air conditioning systems that many of us use at home and at work can severely dry out skin, leading to premature aging and wrinkles. To help keep skin youthful and soft, try turning down the heat,” Sami advised.

And of course keeping a glass of water in the room can also increase humidity, while wearing a protective face cream can help relieve dryness too.

We are living longer as a whole. Singularly, that can be a curse or a blessing, depending on your perspective.
The best route to natural beauty and healthy skin is to take care of what you have. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? The truth is that your skin takes a beating from the environment every single day. Here are some of our favorite beauty tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy:

1: Stay hydrated and do it with plenty of water! That does not mean soda, caffeine or any other type of liquid, even if it is low cal. Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!

2: Protect your skin from harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. We all love the sun. We love being in it and we love having a beautiful tan. The truth is you can poison yourself with too much sunshine. UV rays cause skin cancer and if that isn’t bad enough it causes your skin to age faster than it should, contributing to unsightly wrinkles. If you must play in the sun, make certain you are using an adequate sun screen. Don’t leave home without it!

3: Keep your skin clean. Use a soft warm cloth. Skin does not require scrubbing. You will do more harm than good if you do.

4: The best cure for wrinkles is to never have them in the first place! If you are like most of us, you didn’t listen to your Mom when she tried to tell you to stay in the shade, stand up straight and stop squinting!

5: Eat healthy. Knowing how and what to eat, can make a huge difference in how you feel. Improper eating habits can cause depression, weight gain, illness and an overall lethargy.

Weight gain causes your skin to stretch. As you get older, it loses it’s elasticity and you’re left with sagging skin.
The best solution to this is to maintain a proper weight.

A rule of thumb for eating habits are…don’t eat more calories than you consume. Don’t go one single day without doing something extra and physical for at least 30 minutes per day. This can be three ten minute walks. Or 30 minutes of vigorous aerobics, or 12 minutes of weight lifting and 18 minutes of walking.

6: Don’t worry, be happy. A happy outlook appears to trigger the release of endorphins. Endorphins relax the cardiovascular system and cytokines which alert the immune system to pay attention in detecting abnormalities like cancer cells. Listen carefully to yourself. If you have put yourself down since childhood, over a lifetime, negative subliminal messages can take their toll by turning you into a pessimist. Spend one week writing down the phrases you use in your “self talk.” Chances are you will find that you repeat a dozen or so phrases over and over again that reinforce that negative image. If you know about them, you can change them. Outer beauty and inner joy go hand in hand.
